The project aims to expand the study on the genetic diversity, diet, and human interaction of Himalayan Black Bears in Nepal's protected areas, with the ultimate goal of informing conservation efforts and improving gene flow and connectivity among the existing population of Himalayan Black Bears.
The study will be conducted in the landscapes of Nepal, where the bears are threatened by habitat degradation, fragmentation, anthropogenic pressure, climate change, and poaching. The activities include non-invasive genetic sampling and conservation education programs in communities living near Black Bear habitat to raise awareness and reduce retaliatory killings.
