Project is focused on Western tur (Capra caucasica) and Eastern tur (Capra cylindricornis) conservation and research in two regions of Georgia.
Western tur (Capra caucasica) and Eastern tur (Capra cylindricornis) are endemic to the Great Caucasus. Population number has decreased dramatically over the last decades. Both are red list species with trend of population decline. Project is implemented in Lagodekhi PA (Easter tur) and in Svaneti, proposed protected area (Western tur).
The project objectives are to:
a) Estimate number of animals and evaluate current threats in Svaneti region and Lagodekhi Protected Areas;
b) Strengthen anti-poaching activities in Lagodekhi protected Areas and Promote establishment of new protected areas in Svaneti;
c) Establish a basis for community involvement in conservation activities.
