Project is aimed to find out pressure to biodiversity due to sand and stone excavation and disseminate minimizing ideas by focusing river system and park biodiversity conservation.

Life existence cannot be expected without safe water and sound habitat. Habitat could be different species to species but each species needs safe water for survival. Single source of water can ensure biodiversity richness where as pollution and disturbance to this source can impacts biodiversity negatively in large scale.

Fishing, excavation and grazing pressure at Rapti River.

Among three major water sources of Chitwan National Park (CNP), Rapti River is the most important one because it runs along and touches huge area of park. River system itself holds many globally threatened species and also supports huge number of park's wildlife. Currently, people extract stone and sand from Rapti for construction purpose. They are focusing direct benefits only but not paying attention to biodiversity loss from their activities. With increasing in population and urbanization within and surrounding districts, demand of these materials is also increasing simultaneously. So, the excavating activity is becoming immense threat to river system and CNP biodiversity.

Therefore, it become urgent need to alert threat creature group and concerned stakeholders in order to reduce further deterioration of Rapti with aim of biodiversity conservation. Project has planed to find out pressure, impact and educate concerned stakeholders about less hampering ideas.
