The principal goal of the project is to develop honey as an alternative but significant source of income with minimal ecological impact for wetlands conservation in Danau Sentarum National Park. To achieve this, we propose to:

Increase understanding about the impacts of climate and flowering patterns on the population, distribution and migration of honey bees (Apis dorsata) by setting up participatory monitoring plots in honey harvesting villages:

Minimize ecological impact and increase the yield of honey harvest by providing training to improve traditional harvesting technique;

Increase the quality of honey produced and marketed by providing training on post-harvest processing techniques and marketing assistance;

Facilitate the coordination between honey harvesters throughout the reserve and increase awareness of government agencies about the potential of this non-timber forest product by facilitating meetings among villages, as well as between villages and relevant institutions.
