Human-elephant conflict in Bannerghatta National Park, India
The major conservation problem in the study area is the human-elephant conflict and its impact on the socio-economics of the local communities. Besides vivid evidence from local sources, little is known on the conflict issue and its effect on the demographic parameters of elephant populations. There is no ongoing research to understand and monitor this problem.
Thus the study would try to:
1) Evaluate the extent of man-elephant conflict;
2) Estimate density of elephant population, age-sex structure and the status of corridors available for use by elephants;
3) Derive management recommendations for the long-term conservation of the Asian elephant.
